Convention over configuration

Does wearing grey t-shirts help you build billion-dollar businesses? Sort of...

Every little decision you and your team makes requires time and communication.  Lots of unimportant decisions add up and waste time.

Mark Zuckerberg wears grey t-shirts everyday so that he doesn't have to waste time deciding what to wear every morning.

Convention Over Configuration is about reducing the amount of decisions your team has to make about things.  Instead of constantly tweaking, can you make a sensible decision once and turn that into your conventional way? Can you agree on a communication channel, or standard team roles? Can you set up some templates for reuse?

These conventions speed up progress, since you and your team spend time on the decisions that really count.

Are you making the important decisions?  Do you need stronger conventions?
